I have a question and I am not sure if this is the correct forum, but here goes....
If a :seller wants to give a substantial discount for larger buyers, is this taken in to consideration when final value is worked out for commission ??

Hello Richard,

I do myself offer important discount for larger buyers, but obviously the comission I will pay is calculated on the amount before the discount. It is my choice that these buyers should be rewarded, and I assume alone that cost, not the site.

Thank you very much for your answer, obviously one has to take in to account the size of the discount including commission....
By the way, one of mine 8 Great grandchildren has been nicknamed by me "Monkeyman". and I am looking forward to spending the coming Holidays with him.

You're welcome

What one should not do, is overcharge the price of the items to countereffect the discount, that seems to me pretty wrong (althought i know that it is common practice with some street retailers!!).

Monkeyman is the nickname given to me by my flatmate during my 10 years in London.
I am indeed nearly as hairy as a monkey !!
Since it is also the name of a comic character i find pretty good, it was only fitting that this nickname which keeps appearing into my life should be mine !!

I like your story very much, and your granchildren look like great little...monkeys !!:applause:

Hi again Richard,

That's what I'm doing.
Since none of my items have been taken out by the moderators, I think it is safe to say that it is allowed.
If anybody has anything to add on this subject, they are very welcome to add their info on this post.

Hi Ryszard,

There is a way only to pay commission over the discount price:
When you have an agreement with your buyer, he (officially) has to give you a lower offer (through Delcampe). When you'll accept the offer, you'll only have to pay commission over the agreed price.
It works. You'll try.

bonjour cousin fred,

my 3 young half filipino granddaughters sure act like wild monkeys sometimes. and drive me coconuts. :wink2: i remember a fellow army medic in training in texas in 1967/8. he was jewish and from NYC, and named jeff zwerin. we became very good friends. he also was a very big hirsute person and had to shave twice a day to pass inspection. we used to go to the gym every night to do weight training. and he got me buffed and in the best shape of my life. i truly hope he never went to vietnam as i did and became wounded. or worse. he was just too nice a person for tragedy to happen to. i am sorry to have lost track of him, as i had many of my army friends. they were good comrades.

Hi Bill,

All these "monkey talks" really gets me to appreciate a forum wich is a lot more friendly than the French one, (hence Sébastien's decision to limit it's acces, although we still seem to be able to chat, and the deadline is long passed without any changes so far...................)

Hi Richard,

It is indeed a good solution, but you have to be certain to get in touch with the buyer BEFORE his bid, and that could be a little bit tricky!!

Hi Monkeyman,

There's nothing tricky to it.
I suppose the buyer contacts the seller to make a deal about any discount.
So nothing has happened at that point.
If seller and buyer agree about a certain discount, the buyer can offer a lower bid on Delcampe (everything according to the rules). He can even do this without contacting the seller first.
The seller accepts this lower bid and he only has to pay commission on that price!
Simple as that.

PS: Dear Cajunsr,

If you don't have anything to do....don't do it here!
We know all the stories by now: Vietnam....medic....children....grandchildren..... member 30?.....etc etc.
So give my regards to Clifton Chenier back in Louisiana ( a Cajun I admire very much...although I don't know if he is still alive) and please don't use this forum as a chat-box any more!

Hi Robbydutch,

I understand you, but how do you get the buyer to contact the seller before any bid ?
Do you ask for a contact prior to transaction in your add ? And if so are you certain that it still follow the charter ?

P.S. A little digression every now and then seem ok to me. So please don't be to harsh on Cajunsr, his input to this forum is still of high quality nevertheless!

Hi Monkeyman,

I don't see the problem. If the buyer bids without asking for a discount, then why should you give him one?
If he does ask for a discount before bidding, you can suggest my solution. But if you want to give him the discount after the transaction, then you have to pay commission over the full amount.
There is an option on Delcampe to place lower bids, so there's nothing against it to use that option as a buyer!

PS Sorry if I seem a bit harsh towards Cajunsr. It's OK by me if he wants to tell everyone about all the things that are important to him, but let him do it in the proper category: "Everything and Nothing" or "Say it with a Smile":wink2:
And as long as he sticks to the subject, I hope to see him often on the Forum!

Hello again Robbydutch,

The way I put my adds is a bit different to most. I propose a discount for large buyers without relying on lower bids.
Your solution is good and you have got a very valid point. I work differently, offering the discount after the bids. It's my way and my choice, guess we're both right !!
Thank you for the exchange . It's always a pleasure to chat with people like you.

PS: To digress a bit, I too hope to to see Cajunsr often on this forum, can't really explain it!! It's a feeling (and a good one, the beignets were so nice!!!).

Richard

Hi,

There are a couple of ways to work discounts & discount advertising into your listings.

I]

To provide discounts to ALL buyers simply use the Bulk price editor under

MY CONTROL PANEL ; My Selling ; Multiple Changes

At that page you can raise & lower prices by either a % value or a set price value on all your items all at once.

We typically run periodic sales of 20-33% off for special occasions
from time to time.

When we do, we change our prices by the method above and then add text to both our "My Messages" text and our shipping terms text in large red letters like:

"20% off sale till 21 September"

and underneath that in smaller black letters:

"all prices already reduced for sale
prices return to normal 22 Sept"

By modifying the listings at those two places ["My Messages" text and shipping terms text } you modify all your listings at once.

The same with using the bulk price editor you adjust all your prices at once.

II) Individual sales for large Volume customers:

We offer our best customers private sales of greater margins off from time to time by personal emails.

We have them buy items off of our listings at the regular prices and then send them an invoice with the corrected price.

To do that, Simply put a negative number in the shipping spot of the invoice.

Method I does not cost you ant "extra" final value fees to Delcampe. Method II does because Delcampe goes by the final value price of an item as it appears on the listing, by really...the fees are so reasonable on this site that it doesn't matter much.

Delcampe is not ebay the "feebay"....
